The BONJO Journey Begins 🤎

Tomorrow is a big day for Wongo Creek.

Tomorrow the very first BONJO production run begins.

And honestly… that feels pretty surreal.

What started as a sketch and an idea is now becoming something real.

The BONJO was created for little country kids. Cool mornings at the camp draft, pony rides, afternoons in the paddock, weekends at the rodeo and everything in between.

But before anything goes into production under Wongo Creek, it has to pass the test.

And I mean properly tested.

When our sample arrived, the first thing I did was inspect every detail:

seams
fabric quality
press studs
fit
stitching
lining
shape

Then came the wash test.

Because let’s be honest… parents don’t care how pretty something looks if it falls apart after one wash.

So the BONJO was washed, dried and inspected all over again.

Did it shrink?
Did the Sherpa lining hold shape?
Did the seams twist?
Did the press studs stay secure?
Did the leather patch shrink?
Did it wrinkle and need ironing?

Because as a mother and grandmother, I know children’s clothes should be easy.

Throw it in the wash.
Dry it.
Put it straight back on them.

No ironing necessary 🤎

I’m so proud to say the BONJO came out even softer after washing and completely wrinkle free.

Then came the final and most important test…

My 2-year-old grandson Spencer 🤣

Watching him run around in it, laugh, play and genuinely love wearing it made me realise this little dream of mine is becoming real.

And yes… the name BONJO came about because my granddaughter couldn’t say “poncho.” 🤎

So the name stuck.

The first BONJO release will be limited to only 50 pieces.

350gsm French Terry Knit
100% cotton outer
soft premium Sherpa lining
kangaroo pocket
brass press studs
relaxed oversized fit
hooded design
sizes 2, 4 and 6

The Smile Says It All 🤎

One thing I’ve learnt while building Wongo Creek is this…

Kids don’t fake it.

If they’re uncomfortable, itchy, restricted or annoyed — you’ll know about it pretty quickly 🤣

So when it came time to test the BONJO, my little grandson Spencer became our official model.

And honestly… he absolutely stole the show.

The smile.
The cheekiness.
The running around.
The little poses.
The pure excitement of wearing it.

That’s when I knew we’d created something special.

Watching him happily play in the BONJO instead of trying to rip it off after five minutes was the best feedback I could ask for.

As a grandmother, comfort matters just as much to me as style.

I wanted something warm, practical, easy to wash, soft to wear, easy on and off and roomy enough for little country kids to move properly in.

Something they can wear:

at camp drafts
watching the horses
out in the paddock
on cold mornings
or simply curled up on the lounge

And seeing Spencer’s little grin while wearing it…
